Not many 4AD bands ever visit Fargo. The UK based record label (a bit too obscure for North Dakota) started in 1979 and continued through the early 1980′s with acts like Bauhaus, Modern English, Wolfgang Press and the Birthday Party. The mid 1980′s and early 1990′s 4AD brought exposure to acts like the Pixies, the Cocteau Twins, the Breeders, Pale Saints, the Throwing Muses and Lush. The label has remained relevant to this today being the current home for popular acts such as TV On the Radio, Blonde Redhead, Beirut and the Mountain Goats. Continuing in the 4AD tradition of etheral, lush, shoegazey pop is Baltimore’s Celebration, who are touring on the heels of the release of their new album "This Modern Tribe". Celebration adds a bit of soul to the mix with the vocals of frontwoman Katrina Ford, who is the gyrating life force of the band. She mesmerizes during their live performances, and her vocals acts almost as a another instrument during recordings sticking out above all else. The band has cut their teeth on the road with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Blood Brothers and the Liars. The latest record is produced by David Sitek of TV On the Radio and features guest spots from Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Anti
balas. While Celebration is coming onto their own on a headlining a tour featuring San Diego’s Kill Me Tomorrow, they will visit Fargo on Tuesday. You’ll want to come on out to see a fantastic label’s latest discovery. Celebration play the Aquarium for 21+ Tuesday night with Kill Me Tomorrow and locals A Message of Bullets. Cover is $6 with music starting after 10 pm.
